Weathers records +8.1 game score, but does not earn Player of the Game honors in Yankees loss to White Sox
Yankees pitcher Ryan Weathers recorded the highest Box-Toppers game score among Thursday’s non-Player of the Game winners.
Weathers struck out eight over 6 1/3 innings, allowing one run, three hits and one walk, but the Yankees lost to the White Sox, 5-1. Weathers, who had a +8.1 Box-Toppers game score, third-highest of the day, picked up a no-decision in the game.
Player of the Game honors instead went to the White Sox’ top player, pitcher Sean Burke (7.1IP 5H R BB 8K W), who recorded a +7.1 game score, closing out the game for Chicago.
Also notable in the game, Andrew Benintendi of the White Sox recorded Thursday’s highest Box-Toppers game score by a batter (+5.0), but did not win Player of the Game honors. Benintendi hit a grand slam in his only at bat, but Burke’s +7.0 game score beat him for Player of the Game honors.
